Sports Goods Project

LIC Sri Lanka and Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown, as a group had planned out a series of sports goods projects by selecting and supplying the same to schools. This project was another initiative by Rtr Benjamin Yoga. The progress has taken some steam and is in its final stages of implementation.

Let us show the way of light to school students.

AGM 2007

Every club, has to have its AGM each year. Apparently, we had not being having the AGM's continuously until this year.

The AGM had the following projects confirmed as per Rtr President Shanaki Perera:

1. Thalasemia Project - Smiles
   
2. Cancer Hospital - Christmas
   
3. Tube well phase 3
4. Sports Goods Project - Bandarawela
   
5. Avurudu 2008

The committee was very interested with the developments and look forward to the forthcoming months of implementation.

Installation of 5th President

4 successful years down the line with the masculine reign, its time to be lead by the feminine, powerful Rotaractor Shanaki Perera. It was in 2007 at The Eighty Club that Shanaki took her oath, pledged allegiance towards the service for Rotaract.

Her powerful board was also inducted with 4 new members with a powerful lin ep of projects as follows:

• Avurudu 2008
• Project for the Thalsemic kids

Tube Wells Project

Rtr Benjamin, had a burning will - to provide water to the Tsunami victims of Sri Lanka. He chose his area very well. Chose the correct person for the job in Moratuwa. With proper planning and implementation and with the helping partnership of LIC Sri Lanka, the rotaractors were able to successfully finish the 3 phase project of 21 wells in Moratuwa, the needy.

Nishantha gets married

Long awaited, Nishantha's and Nishanthahi's marriage was held in grand style. Marriage was at the Wellawatte Church followed by reception at The Grand Oriental Hotel. Karthik was in fact the best man for the evening.

A day to cherish for the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown.

Long live Nishantha and Nishanthahi.

Ooh Gana

Benjamin Yoga, fonly known as Benji, finally makes his dream come true. He makes it a reality by releasing the lona awaited Ooh Gana CD amidst many dignitories. We were there to witness the same.

Installation of 4th President

Three years roll by, and its time for Roshan Mohamed to hold the reigns. Within the work load at Virtusa, 4th president takes up his oath amidst fellow rotaracters and rotarians. Roshan had given a string of heavily loaded projects, awaiting implementation.

Lets do it again...!

Avurudu 2006

Avurudu at Uptown, is different with a blend of Sri Lankan style, western music, Indian food and a mixed culture. This is another first for the Rotaracters, thanks to aunt Sulo offering us with her residence as the venue and her guidance as a continuous source of encouragement.

Come, enjoy avurudu in Uptown style.

Bag of firsts

The Colombo Uptown club has been into collecting a lot of products to its "Bag of firsts". The first to have a different installation, the first to have a different policy towards rotaract, the first to hold a 3 phase eye camp, the first to start off the IRBT. Not Stopping here, we are looking out for further products for this bag of ours. Join in and help us collect more to this "BOF".

Its not about achievements, its not about who is the best, rather, simply, enjoying rotaract in our way.......the fun way.

IRBT 2005

Finally, after months of planning, talking, collecting funds, its finally, the moment of implementation. The date of the first ever IRBT 2005 in Sri Lanka.
This event, was organised with the permission of the Basketball association of Sri Lanka, with professionals referees, equipments and consultants.

The premises, Otters Aquatic Club, had changed for a day, into a rotaract premise.

The Finalists were ANC and Colombo, of which Colombo reigned as champions, to whome we had given a grand prize ceremony.

Will they hold this ......for how long...?

Prelude to IRBT

It was a normal day that we had planned out to have a basketball match amongst a few of us at the Colombo Campus, for which around ten had turned up to practice. This was prior to the IRBT, and was taken up as the idea generation for IRBT.

It was Rtr. Prassanna Devamanoharan's brainchild. The whole idea, blew large and saw its realization within months. But none could forget the days that we had practiced at the campus grounds with just 6 or 8 of us playing until we die.

Crazy were we those days....!
